Relay Will Bring Runners More Than 200 Miles From Mountain Creek to Island Beach on October 12 – 13, 2012
HOPKINTON, MA — ( March 29, 2012) The directors of the New Balance Reach the Beach (RTB) Relay Race Series have announced the addition of a third relay to its series, RTB New Jersey: Mountain Creek to Island Beach. The New Jersey event will begin on Friday, October 12th at Mountain Creek in Vernon, the New York Metro area’s closest and bestknown winter resort, and finish at Island Beach State Park in Berkley on Saturday, October 13th. Details of the new event and online registration can be found online at www.rtbrelay.com.
At 200 miles and more than 24 hours of running, The New Balance RTB Relay: Mountain Creek to Island Beach is the first race of its kind in New Jersey. The race will wind its way from the Skylands through more than 40 towns, boroughs, and townships across the state to finish at the Jersey shore. The race field will be limited to 200 teams of 12 runners. “With its close proximity to New York City and Philadelphia, it’s beautiful beaches, and extensive system of state parks, the Reach the Beach Relay organization felt New Jersey was the perfect location to expand its premier brand beyond its New England roots,” said Rich Mazzola, Reach the Beach co-race director and founder.
The New Balance Reach the Beach Relay Race Series includes the 14 year-old New Hampshire-based fall relay, as well as the Massachusetts-based spring relay, now in its second year. 2012 represents New Balance’s sixth year sponsoring the Reach the Beach Relay event and the twelfth time New Balance has sent associates to compete in the race. “The Reach the Beach Relay draws people from all over the country to come together for two days, focused on having a great time running,” said Patrick Tomasiewicz, Integrated Marketing Associate for New Balance. “It is a unique event in that it engages both novice and veteran runners alike in an experience that is physically challenging and socially rewarding. As a brand founded on running we are thrilled to have the opportunity to bring such a positive experience to runners now three times a year through the Reach the Beach Relay Series.”
The Reach the Beach Relay NH race: Cannon to Hampton Beach, now in its 14th running, is considered to be one of the premier running relay races in the US. The NH race takes place during the start of New England’s fall foliage season on the picturesque main streets and back roads of New Hampshire. The 2012 NH race will begin at Cannon Mountain on Friday, September 14th, and finish at Hampton Beach State Park on Saturday, September 15th. The New Balance Reach the Beach Relay: Wachusett to Westport, now in its second year, will begin on Friday, May 18th at Wachusett Mountain Ski area in Westminster, and finish at Horseneck Beach State Reservation in Westport on Saturday, May 19th.
