We do our best to ensure that the distances of each leg of the RTB Relay are as accurate as possible. However, due to the variety of measurement techniques available to you (and to us), you may find that our published distances don’t line up with what you’ve measured. Generally speaking, you should expect our distance accuracies to be within .2 miles for any single leg.
Legs
The following are general descriptions of each leg and are intended to provide you with a preview of the Reach the Beach route. Please use the course maps for specific navigation detail and elevation profiles.
Leg 1: 6.6 miles: easy [map]
The starting leg begins at the base of Cannon Mountain and winds its way passed Echo Lake before joining the Recreational Trail that goes downward through Franconia Notch. This should be a serene beginning to your RTB adventure.
Leg 2: 9.3 miles: hard [map]
Leg 2 is the longest leg of the race and heads down Rt. 3 into the Town of Lincoln, NH. After a couple of turns you will find yourself on Rt. 112 at the start of the Kancamagus Highway otherwise known as “the Kanc”. The road turns slightly upward as you head towards the Lincoln Woods trail head. Runners will be directed onto a dirt trail just before crossing the bridge. The diversion will be worth the extra two-tenths of a mile. Trust us.
Leg 3: 7.8 miles: very hard [map]
Note: this TA is part of the White Mountain National Forest. Please do not offload any trash at this location.
This is the ‘hero’ leg. There is no where to go but up on one of the toughest legs of the race. Pace yourself and enjoy the many spectacular views as you climb up the most famous highway in NH.
