City Year
City Year unites young people of all backgrounds for a year of full-time service, giving them the skills and opportunities to change the world. As tutors, mentors, and role models, these young leaders make a difference in the lives of children and transform schools and neighborhoods in 19 sites across the United States and in Johannesburg, South Africa. City Year was founded in 1988 to demonstrate that young people in service could be a powerful resource for addressing our nation's most pressing issues. Today, in partnership with school administrators, corporate supporters, government officials and community members, City Year directly works to address the National Dropout Crisis. Every 27 seconds a students drops out of high school. City Year corps members work to get targeted students back on track academically and socially through one-on-one mentorship, whole class support and offering additional out of school programs.
City Year New Hampshire Established as the thirteenth City Year site, and part of the AmeriCorps National Service network, City Year New Hampshire was launched on October 11, 2000 as the first non-urban City Year site. Serving in the Seacoast and Merrimack Valley regions of the state, our corps members work primarily with middle school students to get them on-track and engaged in their communities at an early age. Now celebrating our 10th Anniversary year, City Year has made the following impact in New Hampshire:
Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC)
We are pleased to announce that the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) is now our official environmental charity. We encourage all our teams to make a generous contribution to the AMC to support all the organization does to enrich our lives and preserve the environment.
On Friday, September 18, AMC volunteers will be helping to staff the Transition Area at the AMC's Highland Center, which in February won the designation as the Best Green Resort in New England. Runners, friends and family are welcome to take one of the scheduled tours of the Center throughout the day. Stop by the AMC’s booth at Cannon on Thursday, September 17, to learn about all the environmental initiatives they have, including the Maine Woods Initiative. We encourage all teams to make a contribution to the AMC at their booth. New Hampshire Community Organizations:
The following organizations live in and around the communities that the event takes place in. These groups come out to volunteer for the event. In addition to the donation that the RTB Relay makes to their group, many of them take advantage of the opportunity to sell (or request donations for) light food and refreshments to the participants. They are a critical part of this event and we are pleased that they are able to benefit from it multiple ways.
